The new Youth Parliament for 16 to 19-year-olds has officially launched in Gibraltar, marking a significant step in youth civic participation and democratic education.
The opening session, held on Monday, introduced parliamentary procedure and included discussions on youth participation in public life. Participants had the opportunity to take part in parliamentary-style debate, develop policy ideas, and gain insight into parliamentary processes. Jonathan Garcia had the honour of serving as an adjudicator alongside The Hon. Deputy Chief Minister, Atrish Sanchez, and Michelle Rugeroni
Jonathan said:
“I am honoured to have been asked to take part, and the enthusiasm shown at the inaugural session reflects a strong appetite for meaningful civic participation among Gibraltar’s youth.”
We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Madam Speaker, Hon Judge Karen Ramagge Phillips GMH MP, and the parliamentary staff for their vision and dedication in bringing this landmark initiative to life. Initiatives like this are vital in nurturing the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and public servants in Gibraltar.
